WHAT PATIENTS ARE SAYING AFTER THEIR FIRST SESSION
"Problem: Right shoulder soreness, easily fatigued, always kind of “poppy”.
Solution: Decided to see orthopedic specialist. He took X-rays and said it was inflamed bursa and suggested “physical therapy” and heavy regiment of 800mg ibuprofen to act as an anti-inflammatory.
My thoughts on it: I just wasted $500 of my annual deductible to have someone tell me nothing and offer no real solution. So one SPY instructor recommended Andrea of Cornell Physical Therapy and a process called “dry needling”. Heck, I thought it was the new name for acupuncture. It is NOT acupuncture by any means. It is a highly effective way to “control-alt-delete” your central nervous system to stop doing these bad things to you.
What I mean is, the tightness in muscles that lead to problems that eventually torment our lives is being caused by our brain’s central nervous system. IT is telling the muscles to do this. Our job is to confuse it. Yes confuse it. Confuse it such that it isn’t quite so sure anymore what it should be doing in that part of our body. Yoga itself and the dedication to it each and every week slowly did the for my back problem. But never could for my shoulder.
Andrea did it on one hour. How?
Simple.
If you have ever experienced, such as at a chiropractor’s office, the electrical stimulation device or TENS unit -- it pulses electrical signals into the targeted area to cause it to release. Here’s the difference: TENS is like knocking on the problem’s door. Andrea barges right inside and scares the bad guys out of the house so to speak. But the feeling is similar.
You do not feel her insert the tiny dry needle but you have the same goofy, weird muscle spazzing out feeling similar to the TENS treatment. And then it stops. You think she removed the needle. Nope, not yet. That is just the feeling of the bad guys fleeing the house in your body they have been illegally squatting in for WAY TOO LONG.
Sound too easy? Yup. It sure does. But it is true. Probably why chiropractors and orthopedic surgeons never talk about it. It is too logical, too simple and too effective to make repeat money from or a big ticket item like surgery.
Oh, and I almost forgot. After spending 20 minutes studying my every quirk of motion and taking religious notes of what she is seeing, and she had her plan mapped out for where to start dry needling she asked me to remove my shirt to get to my right pectoral and shoulder and she said to me, “WHAT IS THAT!?” Pointing at my right collar bone.
I said, “oh yeah, I had to have it surgically put back together back in 2009, even the titanium plate broke in the recovery process they later removed.”
She replied, “well that is why you are so “POPPY” all the time, laughing out loud of course.” You see, now she REALLY knew the source of the problem so there was even less reason to chase symptoms. Fortunately the areas she mapped out were spot on where they should be given this newfound information.
Bottom line: Andrea is a gem to anyone who suffers from these irritating if not debilitating problems."

"After dealing with chronic Peroneal Tendonitis (or Tendinosis) in my ankle for four years and trying everything from surgery to P.T. to ART to Graston to Acupuncture to Neural Prolotherapy to Steroids to Cortisone injections to a boot - and I was feeling very despondent. I read about Andrea and dry needling online and figured - what the heck - I have nothing to lose. I was treated last Friday and instantaneously the pain was dramatically reduced. The treatment is pretty intense - I am not going to lie - you have that weird, spasming sensation when she puts the needles in the trigger points - and boy does she know how to find them. I am so much better that I walked 4 miles yesterday and am starting to feel like my old "pre Tendinosis" self again. The needle gets in those spots and destroys the pain immediately! My calf was sore for about a day and a half which I fully expected but I am already going back for more on Tuesday as I want to be sure that she hits every spot so that this stays away for good! She started way up on my gluts and worked her way down my leg. She also spent a good deal of time analyzing my range of motion and gave me exercises to do - which I have been doing faithfully. She is very thorough, really listens and really wants to help you feel better - she is a gem! I highly recommend her and dry needling. I took a stuffed animal to squeeze during my treatment and she also gave me a squeezy ball as the feeling is pretty intense as the needle enters the trigger points. It is all so well worth it and over before you know it!" -JW
"I saw Andrea for dry needling for leg/hip pain and severe range of motion limitations. After seeking services at MANY other places, Andrea was by far the most knowledgeable and helpful. If you pay for an hour of treatment you will get more than your money's worth. At other offices they may dry needle tentatively and on 3-4 sites with little to no improvement in pain and range of motion. Andrea does as many sites as necessary to see symptom improvement. Cannot recommend highly enough. Relief in first visit and was sent home with exercises. Never felt like she was trying to "fill her schedule" and pushing visits. She is warm and amicable and will talk to you, not at you, so you truly understand the issues you are having. If other treatments/therapists have left you with little to no improvement, check her out! You will not be disappointed in her skill or dry needling!" -VD (Yelp)
"I'm feeling very well and fully recovered from the dry needle. The neck problem I came in for is gone. In fact, it feels better than it did before I cramped it. I did the stretches we went over all day yesterday because we were mostly just relaxing at the house. Now that I'm at the office I'm employing the proper posture and it's really helping out -- not a bit of soreness or tightness to be seen. Thanks for everything." -CG
